My Life Story -~ by Richard Dorrell
I'm just an ordinary Englishman. I've no strong religious or political views. Socially, I tend to keep myself to myself. I have lived - and continue to live - a life with many stories of ups and downs. When I die, the story of my life will die with me - unless I write it all down...
So - I am creating this website in order to publish a record of my unremarkable life, as I remember it, from my birth in 1951 to the present day (or as long as I am able to continue to update the record). The website is a work-in-progress, and it is my intention that it will continue to be expanded over the coming months and years.
I have no children to pass this story on to, but my tale may be of interest to someone... somewhere.... sometime....
My sister and I were always intrigued by our parents' stories of their childhood and lives before we came along. We persuaded our Dad to write just a few of his early memories, which I publish alongside my story - click this link for Tom Dorrell's 'Jottings From The Past'.
I call my story 'Three Score and Ten' because I recall asking my wonderful mother when I was a small child, how long would I live? Her answer has always stayed with me. She told me no-one can ever tell how long we will live, and then, although she was not a regular church-goer or reader of the Bible, she quoted from Psalm 90, verse 10, which starts: 'The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years' Mum lived to the age of 78, and Dad to 82.
